Personal Prayer of the Elderly
Author: Frank O'CollinsCategory: Ageing & Nursing Care
If there be a purpose almighty Creator,
To this slow retreat towards my end,
Where every hour seems a day,
And every day be a year,
As I watch imprisoned within this rotting shell,
The daily indignities of a body nears it due,
The I pray you speak now,
And spare me another moments torture.

If this existence then be punishment
For a misspent youth, or a life of regrets,
Then I pray those whom I have offended,
Will forgive in this life and the next, ,
Where I have failed to make amends. ,
,
If still being here be for some lesson,
Of wisdom not yet learned,
Then let me profess that I know comprehend,
That life truly is a dream, ,
And nothing is lost when it be awareness. ,
,
Yet if still being here then be a warning to others,
To treat ones life with dignity, ,
To never waste a moment of youth, ,
Then let me speak to those who come, ,
Forgive them for what they do not yet know,
And forgive myself for all I am. ,
My life, ,
My mind,
My soul is in your hands.
