2.5 Medical Treatment

Article 53 - Organ transplant

Organ Transplantation is a form of surgery involving the removal and movement of part or all of a living organ or tissue of an organism to a new site from the same body or a different “donor” body of the species.

There are primarily two (2) forms of organ and tissue Transplantation being Autografts and Allografts:

(i) Autografts are organs or tissues that are transplanted within the same organism; and

(ii) Allografts are organs or tissues that are transplanted between two (2) specimens of the same species.

Organs that have been proven to be capable of transplantation include the heart, kidneys, eyes, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine, and thymus.

Tissues that been proven to be capable of transplantation include bones, tendons, cornea, skin, heart valves, and veins.

The most common Organ transplant surgeries are for kidneys, liver and the heart.

The most common tissue transplant surgeries are for cornea, bones, tendons and skin.

In contrast to organs that usually require extraction whilst the organ is still functioning (living), tissues may be recovered sometimes up to twenty four (24) hours after the cessation of a heartbeat or the termination of life support systems.

The sale or commercial trade of organs from living donors is forbidden, to be suppressed and never permitted to be revived.

When an organ or tissue recipient receives an organ or tissue transplant, the new material, whether organic, synthetic, mechanical or hybrid becomes the sole and absolute property owner of the organ / tissue recipient.

The claim of third party ownership, commercial property or lien against organs or tissues transplanted into a recipient is forbidden, to be suppressed and never permitted to be revived.

The commercial importation or exportation of organs and tissues for organ transplantation across regional and national boundaries is strictly forbidden, to be suppressed and never permitted to be revived.
